Ember is a Canadian musician and songwriter who has released 12 albums and 1 DVD project since 1996 and continues to have a loyal fan base across many national borders.
In 2014, Ember was the third-place national winner of the popular Chinese performance competition show entitled “Mama Miya 妈妈咪呀”, wowing Chinese audiences with her talent and Mandarin fluency. Ember sings in three languages (English, French, Chinese) and coupled with her signature elastic-jazz vocals, eclectic musical styles and poignant astute lyrics, this “folk” artist becomes hard to categorize but impossible to forget.
Her music arrangements feature both Western and Eastern instrumentation such as the featured erhu in her band, a two-stringed traditional Chinese instrument that is considered the ‘Chinese violin.’
Assembled in Beijing, her band includes America’s Anthony on the drums and Darvel on bass, Original on keys, Gabriel on electric guitar, and China’s Ya Qi on the erhu. They are six people who come from four different parts of the world but who have chosen Beijing as their current homes proving, once again, that Beijing is truly a global magnet. As Ember with The Beijing Band, the ensemble is specifically known for Ember’s unique, jazz-influenced guitar playing and elastic vocals, and additional styles contributed by all the members include folk, jazz, swing, R&B, funk, pop, folk-rock, and blues.
